A Message to EGYSL Parents from the President of EGYSL
The mission of the Elk Grove
Soccer League is to be recognized as the best soccer league in the country in
terms of its players, its coaches, its referees, its fans, and its community.
To help us achieve this mission, we need you to play your part. Today, we remind you that the game belongs to your children. We ask that you support everyone on the field with your positive encouragement. Commit to honoring the game in action and language no matter what others may do.
Incessant yelling, command instructions, or negative comments about any player
and the referees is extremely distracting to everyone - it's distracting to the
players, the referees, and even the parents sitting next to you. The players and
the referees will make mistakes. If you disagree with an official's call, Honor
the Game - BE SILENT. EGYSL has a "Match Report" that you can complete
on our website after the game if you truly believe we need to address a problem.
Don't do anything in the heat of the moment that you will regret after the game. Remember to have fun and enjoy the game. Do not instruct your child during game or at breaks; let the coaches coach. Cheer good plays by both teams.
They call soccer the beautiful game because it involves the continual problem solving by the children on the field. They cannot do this if the noise level is overwhelming. Let them figure it out, let them play, and let them have this time on the field.
Sit in your chair and enjoy your child's experience. Thank you so much for making EGYSL the best league in the country.

Elk Grove Youth Soccer League
An Important Letter from our EGYL Director of Coaching to our Team of Coaches
THE BEAUTIFUL GAME
What a privilege we have as coaches to introduce and guide our players through their journey in soccer. We, EGYSL, together can make certain that it is a positive, enjoyable, and life-lasting experience. We teach the game of soccer; the ultimate expression of teamwork, coordinated movements, and a responsibility to each other. All of this in an effort to create the beauty that is FUTBOL-SOCCER.
We as coaches and teachers of the game have the responsibility to ensure that our children have an opportunity to learn to play the game the right way; the right way from a fundamentally sound technical base. The game of soccer is NOT kickball. As a matter of fact, if you are "kicking" the ball you are not playing soccer. In soccer we pass, shoot, cross, clear, etc. All fundamental skills that need to be taught to our children so they can reach maximum enjoyment in soccer.
Our approach to coaching-teaching is vital to the success of our children. Please make every effort to allow your children-players the freedom to make mistakes while trying to do the right thing on the field. Their ability to solve problems on the field of play is what eventually will give them a sense of accomplishment and success. Do not strip that away from them by coaching every step they take.
Give them the space to show you what
you have been teaching them, and when they fail make sure they know it's OK because
you know that it is part of the process. Limit the instruction you provide during
the game and increase the instruction you provide at practice. On game day relax
and release the game to your players. You have done your work during the week.
Your comments should be measured and timely if you want to help your players achieve
success on the field. If you are coaching-yelling the entire game, then you are
simply not helping your players develop nor are you contributing to a positive
learning and playing experience.
Yes, it is a privilege but with it comes responsibility. EGYSL is committed to the growth and development of our sport, and we believe in ALL of you who are part of our league. We THANK YOU for your efforts and contributions to all of the children of EGYSL and look forward to our continued journey in soccer through EGYSL.
Before the game this week and next, please read the important attached announcement to your parents. You need them to help our children succeed. Thank you.
