The Elk Grove Select Soccer Club (EGSSC) offers a program for boy and girls of proven and potential ability between the ages of 8 and 18 to refine and develop their soccer skills in an environment of competitive play and good sportsmanship. Emphasis is placed on the development of motivated players on selected teams within each age group. The club’s mission is to develop, promote, and administer the Select, or Class III, soccer program for youth under 19 years of age.
Select soccer is labeled by California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) as Class III and is also known as upper house recreational. Teams play a ten-game league season and participate in tournaments throughout northern California. One objective of the Select program is to foster each individual player’s desire to play soccer at a greater competitive level.
Elk Grove Select teams participate in the District VI Metro league and compete with teams from the other leagues in District VI. The Metro league season is comparable to the local recreational season, starting in September and concluding in late November. During June and July, age group coordinators develop a seeding proposal. The objective of the seeding process is to create divisions within each age group comprised of teams judged to be comparable in terms of age and experience. Teams then play league games against teams in their division.
There are potential costs involved with being on a Select team. However, we never want financial concerns to be a reason deserving players miss an opportunity to participate in the Elk Grove Select program. Many teams organize fund raising projects and some are able to secure donations from sponsoring businesses to help offset the costs required to participate in our program. The potential cost per-player will vary from team to team. Some of the cost involved with a Select team include, but not limited to, registration, uniforms, tournament contributions, and, team equipment. Additional per-player cost may include, but not limited to, trainer contributions, team warm-ups, team flag, and team bags. Travel and lodging expenses depend on the number of out of town tournaments in which the coach and parent group decide to participate. It may sound overwhelming, but it is not as much as it seems. If you have any questions, contact a board member from the web sight.
Select or Metro (Class 3)
Objectives of the select program are to provide players with enhanced training and competition at a higher level. Commitment from players shall be necessary for success. Players shall be assessed and selected for this program based on skill and commitment. Coaches selected for this program shall possess effective communicative skills and be experience and knowledgeable of the game of soccer. To preserve the objectives of the recreational and competition programs, league age group statistics shall be used to determine the number of teams approved in this program.
